Faster Please

Ther’s a 99.7% chance a planet-killing asteroid will not hit Earth in 2029. Ron Bailey asks if those odds are good enough to justify doing nothing. All I know is that this seems a natural add-on to airborne laser volcano lancing research, except lasers would be useless against such asteroids and planes can’t fly in space. But, somewhere, in principle, there’s a similarity of some kind.
